Tokyo in Tulsa Update

Wed Jul 15, 2009, 9:10 AM
Hi everyone, i'm finally back from Oklahoma. I have never been to Tulsa...i guess i'm used to the dallas downtown or the ausin downtown. Tulsa seemed really...empty for some reason. first of all thank you everyone who came and visited me i had lots of fun talking to all of you!!! i also got to finally visit some of my friends that i didn't get to visit during a kon. and that was great.! I sat behind Alice chan! and she is wonderful. got to know Ladre a lot better and actually sat next to the nice lady i was next to at a kon! fun

the drive wasn't so bad. :iconkieshar: and i left at lie 4 in the morning on friday to get there. the drive was quiet and not too many cars on the road. got there in the morning and find out that nothing opens til 2 pm and we're in the dealier's room. so we just wandered around and checked in the hotel. finally we made it to the room and the artist alley was HUGE! set up and when the place opened. it was like...um....ok where's all the people. it was a crap shoot and it's like OMG... now the problem is that the location of the dealers and the artists were in two locations. we were in the convention center and everything else is in the hotel. we are connected by a weird sky bridge...ok so it's not that bad you say...
to get to the convention center (which is not finished so you can't even to through the front door, the whole thing was under construction) you need to go to the second floor of the hotel, go through this narrow area to get into the car garage. and go down to the third floor...YES YOU READ CORRECTLY, you are on the second floor and you need to GO DOWN to the third floor where the sky bridge to the convention center is. so here's the main problem. unless you are destined to goto the dealer's room there is no reason why you would hang out there. we are like the step child of the convention and forced to live away from everyone else in the family. SOMETHING AWSOME THAT DID HAPPEN is that we sat across from two awsome guys who writes a web comic called boodachitaville.com really funny little web comic and they live in tulsa. so Bob invived us to goto a good pizza place. and let's just say the food was AWSOME and cheap!!! OMG i had artichoke and chicken on my pizza and it was beautiful. and as garlicy as the garlic knots are. they are awsome as well. later i found out that i can order bacom on my pizza BACON!!! not canadian bacon but actualy bacon. FAIL ON ME but win on them! total win.

saturday was a little better but still the same problem. we requested that they put up signs to show people where everything is located and finally mid saturday they slowly put the signs up. i was in my Lenne outfit, id idn't want to be in a uncomfortable costume and i haven't worn this one in a long time. the bad part is that i lost my boots. couldn't find them for the life of me. so i was ghetto and had my flipflops on instead. the more stupid thing was that later i found them in the front seat of the car. anywhooo. so saturday i broke even which was great and did sales but everything was still pretty slow. late at night went to go see the bishounen auction whcih is one of the funniest thing i have ever seen. TOTALLY entertainment i'm not even going to begin to say what happened in there but the super sweet moment was when a cosplayer who did michael jackson went on stage and donated 500$ to the charity that the auction was for. it was SOOO SWEET!!! everyone was super moved. i tried to go to the iron artist thing and got bored and left mid way.

Sunday was weird. it was a lot busier than friday mainly because i think people are trying to get things at the last minute. we left around 3:30 and i drove back. i learned how to use the cruise control!!! AMAZING and i'm so proud that i drove all the way back to dallas!!!! so proud.

will i go back? i don't know there were both good things and bad things about the convention. they said that there were at least 4000 people there and aiming for 5000 but in the area where we were selling it DEFINATELY was not that number. mabye they'll fix that and have the event in the same area. also i noticed that the general population was younger kids who didn't really want to spend money hm...i guess i'm spoiled by the demographic in the texas cons. but overall it was fun and someting different to do other than going to work everyday.

The Good:
1. the rooms were super nice and comfrotable
2. the staff was pretty nice at the hotel and we got a cookie
3. meeting all my friends that i didn't get to say hi to at the convention and meeting new people!
4. bishounen auction is the funniest thing ever.
5. ate some of the best pizza EVER!!!!!!

The Bad:
1.The damn location....OMG it's like a maze to just get to the dealers room
2. not being in the same as the hotel. especially for artist alley it's really tough to not get that traffic
3. no signs until late saturday to tell people where things are
